About
We’re avid gardeners with a passion to eat local, sustainable and clean. We grow our own produce and that passion expanded to our natural soapmaking and ingredients. Soap recipes are garden inspired (our first passion) and several contain ingredients from our own backyard, including mint, calendula, lavender, luffa sponges, yarrow, honey and beeswax. We became passionate about growing even more of our own ingredients for our products and we continually strive to add to that list as well as gather other hyper-local ingredients. We source locally which reduces greenhouse emissions and helps lessen our carbon footprint. It also boosts the local economy by supporting local. Our oils are in refillable containers which reduces landfill waste and we use only natural colorants which eliminates unnecessary pollutants in our water. We don’t use or sell single-use products and are mindful of every business decision we make to ensure it aligns with our sustainability-focused values.
Why we're Green
The process of becoming Green Network certified was interesting, in addition to getting confirmation of current sustainable practices, we learned new ones. We got verification of our current green practices such as using LED lighting everywhere possible, using a programmable thermostat, reusable napkins/paper towels, drip irrigation in the garden, mulch in the yard and integrated pest management practices. We also conduct business with two certified Green Network businesses: Kai’s Refills and Scister’s Salon in La Mesa.
New green practices we learned and have begun to implement include having our HVAC serviced to run efficiently, setting computers/electronics to hibernate and save electricity, using a carbon footprint calculator and adding faucet aerators. We created a calendar to check for water leaks and track machine maintenance as well as added signage for reminders to turn off the lights and faucets. I learned what to look for when picking recycled and non-bleached paper.
