About
Heath Ceramics is a B Corp certified American company that designs, manufactures, and retails goods for tabletop and home, and is best known for handcrafted ceramic tableware and architectural tile in distinctive glazes.
Founded in Sausalito, California, by Edith Heath (1911–2005) and her husband Brian Heath (1911–2001) in 1948, Heath Ceramics is now owned and run by Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic, who purchased the company in 2003.
Heath has two manufacturing facilities: its original dinnerware factory in Sausalito (built in 1959), and a tile factory (established in 2012) in the Heath Building in San Francisco.
Heath sells directly through its stores and its website. Heath maintains four physical sales outlets. In addition to its dinnerware factory and showroom in Sausalito, Heath has a showroom and clay studio in Los Angeles (opened in 2008); a showroom within the San Francisco Ferry Building (opened in 2010); and their flagship San Francisco showroom and clay studio,
Why we're Green
Since our founding in 1948, Heath has always been committed to making our products and running our business in ways that support our people and the planet. Edith Heath’s earliest ceramics were designed to be fired at a lower temperature than the standard—an energy-saving practice we continue to this day. We also recycle clay and water from our manufacturing process right back into the factory. We source our clay and manufacture our products in California, which keeps our carbon footprint light. In more recent decades, we have developed living wage and employee stock ownership opportunities that support our entire staff. And all of these things are just the beginning of a long list of old and new practices, which we prioritize as part of being a California Green Business and, most recently, a certified B-Corp.
