At Del Monte Foods, we implented various measure to be more sustainable. We hired a sustainability manager, structured an executive sustainability oversight team, established sustainability goals, and created green teams at our major offices.
Why we're Green
At our research center we track water, waste & energy usage on a regular basis. We implemented a reusable mug program to eradicate our office of paper cups. Water filters are in place for employees to use their reusable containers. Almost 100% of our lighting is either T-5 or T-8, and now we are looking at replacing T-8s with LEDs. We also have included two out of five cars with hybrids (Ford Fusions and Ford Escape). Based on the solar energy generation coming from our central valley plants we were able to become EPA Green Power Partners. We have a local green team who is responsible for implementing more green measures and coordinating quarterly volunteer efforts. To date, they have coordinated a food bank voluntter day where we were featured in the local paper, and partnered with Save Mt. Diablo by raking non-endemic grass species.
