About
Santa Cruz Bicycles was founded in 1994 in a space not much bigger than a two car garage at 104 Bronson Street in Santa Cruz, California. The Seabright Cannery industrial complex was also home to our compatriots at Santa Cruz Skateboards, RockShox, a surfboard shaper, two bakeries, a salsa company, multiple artists studios, a coffee roaster, a climbing gym, and other assorted riff-raff. Quite an eclectic, but very creative environment.
Our first bike model was the Tazmon—an 80mm travel, dual-suspension bike that rattled established sensibilities, and launched the Santa Cruz Bicycles brand into the full-suspension future. 30 years and 89 bike models later, we’re still pushing the envelope while remaining simply advanced.
Why we're Green
In 2016 our world headquarters in Santa Cruz, underwent a solar retrofit that included adding 1,100 panels to the top of the building and another 930 over the parking lot across the street. The resulting 80,000 square feet of solar panels generate almost all the energy required to run the factory—another step towards lowering our climate impact.
Not only did we design our own bike boxes in a smartly-engineered package that eliminates nearly all plastics and foams, but we also recycle 95% of the packaging materials used by our suppliers. We also ship our bikes to retailers in recyclable cartons free of poly plastics and foams. And if you ever need to ship a bike, hit up one of our retailers to see if they’ll give ya one—they’re the best in the biz.
