About
Located at California and Mason Street, the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco stands at the crest of Nob Hill, several hundred feet above San Francisco's downtown business and shopping district. The 19-story hotel's architecture is a combination of French chateau and Spanish Renaissance, embellished with elaborate terracotta ornament. Because the hotel consists of a tall central tower and two wings outstretched like arms, the rooms offer spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay, the city, the surrounding hills and the ocean.
Why we're Green
I have installed LED lighting throughout our hotel as well as new technology called STEM that helps us to store energy that can be used during peak demand events. We have a green team established and meet on a monthly basis with several green initiatives in place to help us become more sustainable. We will be implementing a major HVAC and RCx upgrade in 2014 which is estimated to reduce our energy consumption by an additional 15% of today's usage. We are also involved with Corporate IHG's Green Engage program which has very aggressive sustainability goals. Our waste diversion rate is at 82% and we have hired a waste expert to assist us.
