About
Since its founding in 2001, Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company follows a C.O.R.E. philosophy—“Culture Of Re-utilization Ethic.” In addition to making award-winning, sustainably handcrafted beer and root beer, the brewery intercepts materials destined for the landfills and uses them internally or ensures they go to another business or group who can benefit by re-utilizing them.
“In combination with our working philosophy for brewing balanced, sustainably handcrafted beer, we operate our company with focus on balancing community/social equity, the environment, and sound economic principles,” stated Founder and CEO Chris Garrett. “In order for any one area to succeed, they must all be in balance.”
The founders and staff of Devil’s Canyon believe and prove to themselves over the past 21 years of operation that sustainable practices allow Devil’s Canyon to give back more—by taking and using less.
Why we're Green
We pioneered the Bay Area craft beer movement in the beginning of the 21st century through innovation, sustainable production, and a never-quit spirit. Today, after moving to San Carlos, we produce over 9,000 barrels a year and distribute all over California.
Pre-DCBC, our facility housed a Tesla R&D facility, planned for demolition. Instead of tearing it down our team rebuilt it using materials collected, traded, and built from parts and pieces from around the Bay. About 90% of the entire facility comes from recycled materials. The boiler is one example. Coming broken from a school in the mid-West, the Devil’s Canyon team fixed and implemented it in the brewhouse.
We continue adding to the list. In June 2019, construction on an array of 170 solar panels began, now covering the outdoor beer garden.
We are awarded for our event center, sustainable business practices and our meticulously crafted beer and beverages. Every day our loyal friends and fans inspire us to innovate
