About
Alvarado Street Bakery is a worker cooperative. Everyone who works at the bakery can be an owner.
Alvarado Street Bakery's mission is to give superior service in providing the finest quality baked goods to its valued customers nationwide by utilizing a worker owned and managed cooperative business structure. We also strive to use whole grain, organic, and non-GMO ingredients, wherever possible, to support sustainable agricultural practices and healthy living.
We started producing whole grain organic baked goods for our local community in 1978. Our roots can be traced back to the "Food for People not for Profit" movement in the San Francisco Bay Area. We were originally part of a non-profit organization called Red Clover Worker's Brigade. The brigade consisted of ourselves, a retail store (Santa Rosa Community Market), a trucking company, and a wholesale warehouse.
We have come a long way since 1978 but one thing remains the same... it is our dedication to baking quality hea
Why we're Green
Alvarado Street Bakery has been practicing sustainability for over forty years. We are a triple bottom line business as all our profits from producing organic whole grain products go to workers. As well as only baking organic goods, we employ green practices whenever possible. Our 404kwt solar panel installation is one example.
